The Weight of Time
Prax 300 SU91: Alexis Waytiuk
-For my Midterm Project I wanted to challenge myself in my practice and push to create a piece that has a strong affect on the viewer.

-I wanted to choose a concept that was general enough to be relatable to anyone but personal enough for me to try to put a unique perspective forward. I decided on exploring the effects of time being constrained on an individual level. Right now I have a difficult relationship with time, where I feel pressure, I never seem to have enough and because of it time always feels constrained and precious, I feel this in many different aspects of my life, but I wanted to focus specifically on how time in constrained for me in a work setting. I work as a bartender full time and have never had a job that challenged the concept of time in so many ways, and I found represents very well the pressure, stress, chaos and rushed nature of what life looks like with very limited time.

-I think despite not everyone having the same job as I do, I feel the bartender position is connected directly to a fast paced, constricted, demanding, chaotic, environment making time appear so precious and limited. I hope that through my personal perspective, I can give a detailed view of my occupation that expresses these feelings that others can connect to deeply.
The Bartender by Fabian Perez (Visual Reference)
-I was specifically drawn to this image because it has the rushed, compact, busy, pressured environment that I'm trying to create. The centre figure acts as a focal point and brings order into the painting, like I want to do with my centre portrait figure.
-The muddied palette emphasizes blurred moments/time, many actions quickly passing at once with the business of a bar scene.

Cafe de la Paix by Guy Buffet

-I found this work specifically inspiring from the amount of visuals present in the piece, It shows the way people interact with each other in this environment and shows the busy nature of the scene.
